A Page Out of Life

I was contacted by Penguin Group Publishing and asked if I would like to review a new book that centers around scrapbooking titled "A Page Out Of Life" by Kathleen Reid. Their description of: "A warm and charming story of the connections women make – and discover – through creating beautiful scrapbook memories" had me hooked right away!

A brief synopsis: The book primarily focuses on the lives of three of the women in a scrapbooking group. First there is Ashley, a stay at home mom with four children, a condescending husband and no time for herself. On top of that, Ashley's mother is a well known model who doles out unwanted fashion advice and her father is never around. Ashley's best friend Megan could see she needed some time away from the kids and talked her into going to a weekly scrapbooking club meeting. At first she was reluctant but once she met the other women in the group, listened to their stories and looked through their scrapbooks, she was glad she went. She had forgotten how much she missed spending time with other (adult) women and found herself making a lunch date with one of them (Tara) before the day was through. Next there is Tara, a confident, bright, single woman who is going for her Doctorate Degree in Art. Between her absentee father and her growing attraction to her thesis advisor, Tara finds herself in stressful situations with no easy solutions. Thankfully her scrapbooking friends are there to help her. Then there is Libby, a semi-retired schoolteacher, a mother of three children and grandmother of four. When her only son finds himself on the wrong side of the law, it is her scrapbooking sisters who help her when she needs it most...

I absolutely loved this book and I found myself getting caught up in the stories of these women. Even though this book is listed as fiction, the women and the stories that surround them ring true. I am going to my friend's annual scrap-fest next weekend and I will be telling the ladies all about this book!

Scrapbooking is: "Creating visual representations that capture life's most precious moments."
